time sharing operating system example

Overview

In early days the computers are very user friendly that means the testing and development phase of programs are very easy for operators or the programmers ,but in this process many time is wastage ,due to time wastage of  CPU that is the CPU time was more hence the cost of  computer is very high so to overcome this situation the Time sharing operating system was used.

Time sharing operating system

Time sharing operating system is sub type of operating system. In this type of operating system the time is managed properly in interactive manner and a reasonable cost.

In time sharing operating system the main principals are used that is CPU scheduling and multiprogramming to provide each user small portion of total time shared.

In this type of OS the the I/O operation are interactive and the CPU is not wait for any operations of any job it immediately switched to next job.

Time sharing operating system allow multiple users to share computers simultaneously and in this process all Actions band Commands are short in size.

This OS is very  difficult and expensive to build.the old example of time shared operating system is "The Dartmouth TiemSharing Operating System" and new examples are Multics,Unix etc.

Advantages of time sharing operating system

1. In time sharing operating system CPU scheduling is very fast.

2. In this system I/O operation are interactive.

3.Time management is properly done  with multiple users in interactive manner

4.CPU scheduling and multiprogramming  enhance the performance of system.

Disadvantages of time shared operating system

1.In this type system Time management involves complicated Algorithms.

2.Time shared operating system is expensive to build .

3.Time sharing operating system are difficult and complicated.

4. In this system effective time management may become  difficult in case of more users.
